Magdelena Stenke was born on 10 January 1806.1 She married Karl Josef Alt, son of Johannes Alt and Anna Maria Breyer, on 23 July 1827 at #8, Girsig, Austro Hungary. She was the daughter of Franz Stenke, Viertler from Karle # 2 and her mother was Klara Haschke.1 Magdelena Stenke died on 4 January 1838 at Girsig at age 31.1 She was buried on 6 January 1838 at Girsig, Austro Hungary.2

Karl Franz Alt was born on 3 February 1836 at # 8, Girsig, Austria.2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22 He was baptized on 30 December 1837 at #8, Girsig, Austro Hungary.22 He married Cazilia Schulmeister, daughter of Karolina Schulmeister, on 2 May 1859 at Arnsdorf, Austro Hungarian Empire.3,22 Karl Franz Alt died on 18 February 1910 at age 74. He was buried at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6 miles west of Bellwood, Nebraska.

He was farmer in both in Austria, and in America.4 History: Gersig, Austria, as listed in the Shelby Centennial, is actually spelled "Girsig", and was located in the Austrian Empire in the 1800's. After World War I, the Austrian Empire was divided and the regions of Bohemia, Moravia, and Slovakia were united to form Czechoslovakia. Girsig was situated in the region of Moravia and thus became a Czech town after World War I. In the early 1900's with a Czech nationalistic movement any town with a German name was changed to a Czech name. Hence, Girsig's name was changed to Jirikov (there are 3 towns with this spelling in the Czech Republic), but this Jirikov (Girsig) is located about 11 miles north of Sternberk in the northern part of Moravia.
The Austrian Empire had been under the rule of the Hapsburg family, and was originally part of the Holy Roman Empire. At one point, German people were invited by the Hapsburg's to come into the areas of Bohemia and Moravia to settle. These regions, around the outer part of Bohmeia and Moravia were also known as the Sudetenland. He resided before 1880 at Alexis Precint, Butler County, Nebraska. He was also known as Frank.
