     Philip Robert Joseph Rupprecht was born on 1 June 1918 at Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska; he was born at 7 PM this date.1 He received First Holy Communion on 28 May 1925 at St. Bonaventure Church, Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska.2 He graduated on 1 June 1932 from St. Bonaventure School, Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska.3 He began military service on 30 October 1940 at Seattle, King County, Washington; he reported for active duty on Feb 3, 1941. He entered as a Heavy Truck Driver in the infantry.4 He enlisted at a private in the Coast Artillery Corps. He had 3 years of high school education at the time. He was employed as a stock clerk before his enlistment on 3 February 1941 at Seattle, King County, Washington.5 He resided on November 1941 in California.6 He married Charlotte Marie Armstrong, daughter of Roscoe Leonard Armstrong and Lullia Fern Reeves, on 20 April 1942 at Saint Michael's Church, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California; Mike noticed that his dad's first name was spelled wrong on the marriage announcement. His parents were married at 8 AM on a Monday.7,8 Philip Robert Joseph Rupprecht ended military service on 30 November 1945 at Seperation Center, Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas; he served in the Central Europe for three years, 11 months and twenty-six days. He helped free G.I. prisoners of war from a prison near the Bavarian Alps. He earned his Rifle Sharpshooter on Jul 27, 1943. He was awarded the American Defense Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He returned to the United States from Europe because his unit was demobilized on Dec 15, 1944. He began his Army carrier with the Parachutist Course at Fort Benning, GA. His serial number was 20-951-398. He received an Honorable Discharge.9,10 He and Charlotte Marie Armstrong moved on 18 July 1949 to 820 'C' St, Renton, King County, Washington.11 On 27 April 1973 at Auburn Municipal Golf Course, Auburn, King County, Washington, He did this on the par 3, 151 yard 5th hole. His son, Mike, is in possession of the golf ball that he used. Dad was a member of the Central Association of the Miraculous Medal. Philip Robert Joseph Rupprecht died on 13 August 1979 on USPS letter carrier route in the Kennydale area of Renton, Renton, King County, Washington, at age 61.12,13,14 He was buried on 16 August 1979 at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery, Renton, King County, Washington; his burial mass was celebrated by Father Stephen Szeman. My cousin, Delores Rupprecht, shared these memories with Mike & Pat Rupprecht on their 40th wedding anniversary.      Roscoe Leonard Armstrong was born on 24 May 1890 at Pineville, McDonald County, Missouri. He married Lullia Fern Reeves, daughter of Granville Monroe Reeves and Charlotte Everett, on 28 October 1914 at Central City, Merrick County, Nebraska; according to the Marriage License Roscoe L Armstrong was residing in Bridgeport in Morrel County at the time of marriage. His father was listed as J. Frank Armstrong, and mother as Mattie Fooley. Grandmother's parents were listed as Grant M. Reeves and Charlotte Everts. They were married by Rev. J. P. Anderson.1 Roscoe Leonard Armstrong and Lullia Fern Reeves appeared on the census of 17 January 1920 at Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska.2 Roscoe Leonard Armstrong appeared on the census of 7 April 1930 at Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska. He resided on 15 March 1943 at 1910 8 St, Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska. On 27 August 1950 at Columbus Tower, Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska, he was commended for his alertness in detecting a broken brake head on SP 5716, Train 3rd 6, August 27, 1950 and signalling crew to stop, no doubt was instrumental in averting a more serious derailment and was commended for this fine work. A copy of this letter will be placed in your personal record file, Very truly yours, J.E. Mulick, Superintendent.3 He and Lullia Fern Reeves moved to Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska, after 1951. Mary Elizabeth Rupprecht
     Mary Elizabeth Rupprecht was born on 16 November 1909 at Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska; D.T. Martyn, Jr. is listed as the delivery physician. The certificate is signed by A.L. Miller, M.D., Director of Health and Division of Vital Statistics on May 12, 1942. Certificate number is R-162-22, 655-09. On the back of the certificate it reads as follows: To Whom It May Concern: This birth was reported to the State office in 1909. Nebraska did not adopt the U.S. Standard form of birth certificates until 1912. Hence the omission of a number of items from this record. State Department of Health.1,2 She received First Holy Communion circa 1920 at St. Bonaventure Church, Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska.3 She was confirmed circa 1924 at Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska.3 She graduated on 6 June 1928 from St. Bonaventure High School, Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska.3,4 She started nurses training in September 1928 at St. Catherine's Hospital, Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska; In those days there were no graduate nurses to help the student nurses. The student nurses worked with the doctors carrying out their orders. The only graduate nurse was the night surpervisor.3 She began military service in September 1942 at Fort Carson, El Paso County, Colorado; She volunteered for the military through the Red Cross. She entered the service with the rank of second lieutenant. She was here until the end of 1943. On the 1 January 1944 she was shipped overseas. She was stationed at Glascow, Scotland for six months and then was sent to France. She landed on Utah Beach on 16 July 1944. She served at two different stations in France, Carratan & Commercy (sp). At one station they over 1,500 patients to care for. She was sent to a field hospital near the front lines following her arrival in France. She was there for about three weeks. She was then sent to the 50th General Hospital. This hospital was made up of tents with contained beds for 30 patients. A nurse and two wardmen were responsible for these 30 patients. She was stationed at Carratan from July to November of 1944. In November of 1944 she was moved to Commercy, which was near the front lines. She served there and at a field hospital until the end of the war on May 6, 1945. The field hospital was very close to the Battle of the Bulge.3 She ended military service in May 1945; she got out due to the end of World War II. She ended her active military career with the rank of first lieutenant. Mary retired from the Reserve 50th General Hospital in 1967 with the rank of major.3,5 Aunt Mary Rupprecht worked as a general floor nurse. She became head nurse in 1948 in December 1947 at King County Blood Bank, Seattle, King County, Washington.3 She was named outstanding Catholic War Veteran of the State of Washington on 15 May 1970 at Yakima, Washington.5 She retired in July 1973 from Seattle, King County, Washington.3 She was a volunteer making beds at the retreat house on Mondays; Tuesdays she helped with medical care at a local senior center; Wednesdays she helped her cousin Kate by doing most of the housework and shopping; Friday she helped do most of the housework and shopping for a blind couple who lived below her. Every week she helped at church with washing linens and cleaning. She did this for almost twenty years at Seattle, King County, Washington.3 As of 31 July 1996, the address of Mary Elizabeth Rupprecht was 11133 51 Ave S #16, Seattle, King County, Washington.3 She died on 29 October 2002 at Providence-Swedish Medical Center, Seattle, King County, Washington, at age 92.6,7,8,2 She was buried after 29 October 2002 at Greenwood Memorial Park, Renton, King County, Washington.
